Beautifully imprisoned between the cliffs and the course of a small river, this beach is certainly of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in Portugal!
Starting from Lisbon, go south until you cross “Ribeira de Seixe”, the border where Alentejo ends and you arrive at the first beach of Algarve: Odeceixe. In the heart of Costa Vicentina Route (http://rotavicentina.com), crossed by so many people searching for authenticity and beauty.
You can enjoy both the sea or the river. Do some water sports (if you don’t have your own material, you can rent it on the beach), walk, or just relax.
The beach small village is a protected area of small typical houses, most of them available to rent if you want to enjoy the full experience.
Some spots not to lose:
- “Esplanada da praia” (don’t search in google maps … not there) – go down “Rua Principal” (meaning Main Street!), and at its end, just on the beach, there it is. Good vibes, good snacks, good service… and amazing view! Good for a relaxing meal, coming or going to the beach.
- “Agapito Bar” with a panoramic view on the beach and cliffs, is really the perfect spot for sunset, with a glass of wine or “Moscatel” (Portuguese liquor wine) – try it with ice and lemon peel.
Odeceixe village, a few kilometers from the beach, is also worth visiting. A typical Alentejo village, with small houses and a windmill on the top of it. Nice to wander around at the end of the afternoon and finish in a local restaurant having fresh fish or meat typical dishes. Local deserts are sooooooooooooooo good: try the ones with sweet potato or walnuts or both 😉
Restart for breakfast at “Pão do Rogil”, family artesanal bakery since 1965, some minutes away from Odeceixe by car. You can also take some tea cookies to enjoy on the beach or buy delicious presents for your beloved ones (olive oil with flavours, bread, cakes… ).
Discover Odeceixe beach and surroundings with a lazy and watchful mindset, discovering the details that make this place so special!
